Excerpt from an article published in the Tradin' Post, Auction Block, that featured Troy McHenry in 1993

By: Don Thrasher

Auctioneer Troy McHenry cut his teeth in the antique business at an early age while working for his father, Richard, in the family business.  "I'm a second generation antique dealer," McHenry said.  "My father has been in the business for about 25 years, and I've worked with him most of my life."  When McHenry became an auctioneer, he knew he wanted to keep it in the family like his father had done with his antique business.  "My auction business is a family business," he said.  "My mother, Sandy, helps me with advertising and cashiering and my father helps out as the head ring man."  McHenry became interested in auctions at an early age, but he waited a while before he actually got his license.  "I wanted to get my auctioneers license when I was 18, but I never got around to doing it," McHenry said.  "I graduated from Repperts Auction School in Decatur, Indiana in December of 1991."

Real estate auctions have become increasingly popular in the past few years, and McHenry decided to diversify his business by getting his realtors license.  "I got my real estate license in April 1992, I received my education from Hondros Career Center in Blue Ash.  They have a nice program there," he said.  "I think real estate auctions are going to become more and more popular in the future," McHenry continued.  "It is a good way to sell property, most real estate auctions bring market value.  People used to think of real estate auctions as a sheriff's sale, but that attitude has started to change."

Since becoming an auctioneer McHenry has handled a wide variety of sales including antiques, real estate, toys and advertising.  McHenry will be busy over the next few months with antique and advertising auctions.
